The attention of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations was focused on appointing a committee under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss issues related to investment and tourism industry and take a joint decision. Sri Lanka Latest News
This was discussed when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Namal Rajapakse.
The committee also discussed how the foreign embassies are dealing with the promotion of investments and the development of the tourism industry in this country and the committee pointed out that with the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the relationship between all other necessary institutions should be worked on.
The committee was of the view that it is important for institutions including the Central Bank, Ministry of Finance, Export Development Board, Tourism Promotion Authority, Immigration and Emigration Department to work together for this need and for this purpose the communication weaknesses between these institutions should be avoided.
Thus, the chairman of the committee, Namal Rajapakse, proposed to appoint a committee under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that a joint decision can be taken on the issues related to investment and tourism industry. MP Namal Rajapaksa also pointed out that it is important for the appointed committee to meet at least once every two weeks and discuss the necessary matters.
Agreement to appoint a committee with Cabinet approval to deal with BRICS countries
Also, the attention of the Sectoral Monitoring Committee on International Relations was also focused on the appointment of a committee with the approval of the Cabinet to deal with the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified this matter and it was pointed out that this sub-committee, which is appointed with the approval of the Cabinet, will consider dealing with the BRICS countries. The approval of the committee was obtained in this regard.
Instructions to fill the vacancies of foreign ambassadors quickly
Also, instructions were given to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene to fill the vacancies of foreign ambassadors quickly.
The committee pointed out that there is a delay in appointing ambassadors in several countries, especially China, and the committee was of the opinion that it is important to maintain quality relations with other countries that have direct contact with Sri Lanka.
Thus, the committee advised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene in this matter.
Apart from this, it was also proposed to get a report regarding the officials of the embassies and the progress of the work done by them in the last 5 years.
