In the post-mortem examination of the death of the 75-year-old music teacher, who lived alone in a house on Wijerama Road, Colombo 07, the forensic officer who gave an open verdict regarding the murder after identifying the features that could be considered as murder by strangulation, has forwarded the body parts to the government examiner. The officer has stated that the body parts will be sent to the coroner to confirm the facts about the manner of her death through further laboratory investigation.
Based on this situation, the police have decided to consider this death as a murder and conduct further investigations.
Accordingly, in addition to the investigations being carried out by the Kurunduwatta Police, the Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Bureau has also started an investigation.
Mitrani Fernando Smith, a retired teacher, has died mysteriously. The police stated that she is a resident of Kolonne and has come to live in this house with her husband after marriage.
The police say that she has been living alone in this house after the death of her husband, who is a businessman, about two years ago. Her death happened on the 15th.
The doors of her house were open since the evening of the 15th. The police say that her younger brother’s son parks his car in the backyard of this house. An engineer by profession, he resides in Moratuwa. This son-in-law of the teacher informed the police through 119 that the doors and windows of her house were open and the electricity was switched off.
According to the message, when the Kurunduwatta police came and checked, they found her body lying on the floor of the house. The police immediately took action and brought the 1990 Suvasarya ambulance service to the place. It is revealed that she is dead.
The police say that there were several blood stains where she fell on the ground. It is related to the mouth and chest area. The post-mortem examination revealed no injuries in the chest area. It is assumed that the blood that came out of the mouth has flowed into the chest area.
There is a suspicion that someone strangled her to death and tried to show that it was due to electric shock.
It was because there was an earth polishing machine at the place where she fell dead and its wire was broken and the trip switch of the house was off. When her body was found, the police also found three cups of tea that had not been washed and cleaned in the kitchen. Half of the tea was left in that one tea cup. The police also found some fingerprints on those tea cups.
Apart from that, the police say that 09 loaves of bread were also found. It has now been revealed that this teacher prepared the roti. The rotis are prepared on a gas stove. But the police say that the gas cylinder needed to light the stove has disappeared with her death.
Apart from this, it has been found during the police investigation that a laptop in the house and the mobile phone she used are also missing.
Apart from that, a senior police officer said there is no evidence that any property was stolen from this house.
Police information disclosed that the investigative teams are conducting investigations focusing on whether a thief entered this house and stole these things or whether she was killed in a planned manner by pretending that a theft had occurred.
Investigations have also revealed that the deceased teacher was a skilled piano teacher. The police are working to identify the children who come to learn music from her and get statements from them as well. Apart from that, the police had also taken steps to monitor the suspicious persons by checking the security camera footage of the houses around this house.
Apart from this, a high-ranking police officer said that investigations are also being conducted to find out whether there are people who claim ownership of the house where this woman lived and that the investigation is being conducted as this death is still a mystery and every aspect should be looked into.
