The tendency of the people of Sri Lanka to fall victim to mental diseases has increased rapidly, Psychiatrist Dr. Wickramasinghe made the above comments during the program to identify and treat people with mental problems held at Bogambara Old Prison, Kandy.

He further expressed his opinion and said: We also conducted a special study on the reasons for the rapid increase in mental patients in our country. It became clear to us that the current economic and social crisis in the country is one of the main reasons for this. This situation is very problematic.

When the people who make decisions in a country act without proper mental integrity, the country and the people will face big crises. Mental crises take a major place in it. Many examples can be cited from Sri Lankan politics of how the people who rule the country act without mental integrity.

Many people do not know that they are suffering from a mental illness. There are plenty of such people in our country’s politics. It is possible to clear the confused mind by seeking proper treatment. It is extremely important to get the necessary counseling properly. He also said that we will provide the necessary counseling from the Kandy Home Society.

Kandy National Hospital and Nivahana Samaj organized this program for the recovery of mentally ill patients and on this occasion Dr. Iresha Fernando, Director of Kandy National Hospital, Dr. S. Athira, Assistant High Commissioner of India, Dr. Metsiri Herath, Head of Community Mental Health Medical Unit of Katugastota Base Hospital and others attended the event.
