A high-level meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and officials from the Ministry of Digital Economy, along with heads of relevant institutions.
The discussion focused on the progress of key initiatives outlined in the government’s digital economic development roadmap, which has been identified as a priority strategy for national advancement.
Special attention was given to expediting public digital infrastructure solutions designed to deliver broader benefits to the public. In-depth discussions were held on several major components, including the implementation of the electronic National Identity Card (eNIC), the GovPay government payment system, the digital television project, and the achievement of digital economy revenue targets.
The meeting also reviewed proposals aimed at enhancing the roles of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Data Protection Authority. Additionally, the establishment of new institutions—namely the Digital Economy Authority and cybersecurity bodies—under proposed legislation was discussed.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, as well as a group of chairmen and chief executive officers from the Ministry of Digital Economy and affiliated institutions.
