Health authorities are currently cautioning that influenza is at risk of spreading among children.
Doctors advise parents and guardians to closely monitor children who experience a fever lasting more than three days, especially if accompanied by symptoms such as cold and cough.
Additionally, there has been a rise in dengue cases, warns Dr. Deepal Perera, a pediatrician at Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo, urging parents to stay vigilant regarding this illness as well.
Dr. Perera also emphasized the importance of conducting a blood test if a child exhibits symptoms like cough, phlegm, cold, fever, or vomiting, as other viral fevers with similar symptoms to influenza are also prevalent.
