In a significant move following his inauguration, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced the resumption of investigations into ten major fraud and corruption cases that have previously shaken the nation. This decision coincides with the swearing-in of the new cabinet.
Among the cases set for investigation are notable scandals, including the contentious Central Bank bond fraud. Reports suggest that numerous large-scale corrupt transactions occurred during the last two years of the previous government, alongside fraudulent activities from earlier administrations.
Government sources indicate that preparations for these investigations are already underway. During the election campaign, Anura Dissanayake and members of the Malimave party made a firm commitment to holding accountable those responsible for corruption, emphasizing that those who have engaged in theft will face justice following the presidential election victory.
