The director of the Planning Department at the Maharagama National Institute of Education, who was arrested for allegedly leaking three questions from the first paper of the 5th year scholarship examination, has been remanded until October 7.

The suspect, apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), appeared before Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara today (September 23), who ordered his remand until the specified date.

The CID launched an investigation after discovering that three questions from the first paper of the recently conducted scholarship examination were included in a model paper prepared by a tutor and shared via WhatsApp the day before the exam.

Authorities stated that the arrested individual, who serves as the Director of Planning and Operations and was a member of the question paper preparation committee, faces charges of leaking confidential information related to the scholarship examination.

It has been confirmed that the 57-year-old suspect is a resident of the Kurunegala area, where he was arrested. The CID is continuing its investigation into the matter.
