The Commissioner General of the Election Commission, Mr. Saman Sri Ratnayake, informed ‘Mawrata’ that initial preparations for the general election scheduled for November 14 have begun, with an estimated cost of 11 billion rupees.
The Election Commission noted that although there is a need to request investigation reports from officials in charge of polling stations to determine the reasons behind the rejection of approximately 300,300 ballot papers in the last presidential election, this process may face delays due to the ongoing work related to the general election.
Mr. Ratnayake further emphasized that in this year’s General Election, election laws will be strictly enforced, and heads of relevant institutions will be held accountable for any misuse of state property.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kalpana Gangani Liyanage, Chief of the Government Printing Office, confirmed that printing work for the general election has already commenced. She also stated that sufficient printing paper has been stocked not only for the general election but also for the upcoming local government elections.
