More than 35 newly elected members of parliament from the 2024 general election have reportedly applied for official housing at the Madiwela housing complex.
According to the Parliamentary Communications Department, renovation work is currently in progress at these housing units. The department has confirmed that the renovated houses will be allocated to the applicants starting December 3.
Parliamentarians who reside more than 40 kilometers away from Colombo are eligible to receive accommodation in the Madiwela complex, which comprises 110 official residences.
The Parliamentarian Services Division has stated that the allocation of these houses will be based on the order of requests, including applications from both government and opposition members.
