Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has delivered a pointed critique of the National People’s Power Party (NPP), accusing it of contradicting its earlier stance on agreements with Indian and Chinese companies.
Rajapaksa’s remarks come in the context of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s recent visits to India and China, which the MP described as successful. While commending the President’s diplomatic efforts, Rajapaksa highlighted what he perceives as hypocrisy on the part of the NPP.
“During the previous government, the National People’s Power Party vehemently criticized investments from Chinese and Indian companies, labeling them as controversial and corrupt. Yet, today, they are signing foreign direct investment agreements with the same companies and taking credit for it,” Rajapaksa remarked.
He called on President Dissanayake to clarify the apparent policy shift, questioning the rationale behind the NPP’s earlier opposition.
“Why did they oppose these foreign direct investments back then? Why did they tarnish the reputation of these Indian and Chinese companies? The public deserves answers,” Rajapaksa added.
The MP further criticized the NPP’s approach to foreign relations, stating, “The National People’s Power government needs to clarify its foreign policy. As of now, there seems to be no clear direction.”
