70% assert that the Executive Presidency should be abolished.

The majority of people do not want it!

According to an opinion survey conducted by Verite Research in July 2022, 70% of the population has opined in favour of abolishing the executive presidency.


Verite Research is an independent think tank that provides strategic analysis for Asia in the areas of economics, politics, law and media has released the results of a survey they conducted on the executive presidency.


Only 15% wanted to continue with the presidential system as it is.


A sample of 1052 consisted of individuals representing all communities island wide.


Another 15% agreed that the executive presidency should stay, but only if its powers were changed. Those who did not want to say what they thought did not answer.


According to the results, all age groups seem to have generally agreed on abolishing the executive presidency. As per districts, there was not much of a difference in terms of north and south. 80% have expressed views on abolishing the executive presidency.
