The yellow anaconda that went missing from the Dehiwala National Zoo ten days ago has been found, Deputy Director Hemantha Samarasekara confirmed.
The anaconda disappeared on the night of the 6th. According to the Deputy Director, extensive search operations were conducted during the day, and night-time searches were launched three days ago.
During a search operation conducted last night (16th), the anaconda was discovered hiding on the underside of a drawer inside a cupboard located just a few meters from its cage.
Officials revealed that the animal had escaped through a very small hole in its cage before taking shelter inside the cupboard.
Deputy Director Samarasekara further stated that the baby anaconda is in good health. He noted that, as members of the python family typically feed once a week or every two weeks, there is no immediate concern regarding its food. The animal has now been sent for quarantine.
