Former Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa has alleged that the current government is deliberately attempting to bankrupt the Pelwatte, Sevanagala, and Galoya Sugar Companies. According to him, this is part of a broader plan to hand over the ethanol produced by these state-owned enterprises to a private liquor company for exploitation.
Weerawansa further claimed that a close associate of his, Sadamali Chandrasekara, has been appointed to the Sevanagala Sugar Company as part of this agenda.
