The resolution jointly brought by the ruling party and the opposition to “remove the corrupt Sri Lanka Cricket Board including the chairman” was passed unanimously in Parliament today (Nov. 9) without a vote. Sri Lanka Latest News
Sports, Youth Affairs and Irrigation Minister Roshan Ranasinghe made a controversial statement in Parliament yesterday (Nov. 8) and opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said that according to those facts, a resolution should be passed in Parliament against the Cricket Control Board.
Accordingly, a crucial debate was held today in Parliament to take a final decision on it.
Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who addressed the Parliament before the polls, said that the members of the National People’s Force are not seen in the House.
“Except for the National People’s Party, there are all the other parties except the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna. We do not know whether they agree with this or what. It is a problem for me that when the people of this country have a problem with sports, cricket has only improved for the JVP.”
He further stated that according to the opinion of the people’s sovereignty, the officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute are requested to resign respectfully.
During today’s debate, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing and Chief Organizer of the ruling party Prasanna Ranatunga said that he had received information that Shammi Silva had given money to the Janata Vimukti Peramuna fund.
