Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that moments ago, Lasantha Wickramasekera, Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, was shot during the council’s Public Day. He was seriously injured while performing his official duties and has now succumbed to his injuries, Premadasa confirmed.
“The Chairman is a public representative, and if even public representatives cannot safely conduct Public Day events, it represents a grave national security concern,” the Opposition Leader added.
