Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekera, who was seriously injured in a gun attack, has passed away.
The incident occurred this morning (22) when two unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at the Chairman while he was seated in his chair.
Following the shooting, Pradeshiya Sabha officials immediately took steps to admit the Chairman to the Matara General Hospital for treatment.
Investigations have revealed that the gunmen had entered the Pradeshiya Sabha premises posing as individuals seeking the Chairman’s signature on a letter.
