Warehouse Fire Raises Evidence Destruction Fears in Keheliya Drug Case
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A warehouse belonging to a medical supply company connected to the substandard drug case involving former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has suddenly caught fire, sparking serious concerns over the possible destruction of crucial evidence.

According to Chairman of the Doctors’ Trade Union Alliance for Medical and Civil Rights, Specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, the warehouse reportedly housed important files and medicine samples imported during the relevant period. These materials are believed to be significant to ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in drug procurement and distribution.

Dr. Sanjeewa has called for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately probe the incident.

He urged authorities to determine whether the fire was accidental or a deliberate act intended to destroy evidence. He warned that the loss of files and medicine samples could severely impact investigations into alleged malpractice within the Medical Supply Unit.

He also raised suspicions of organized attempts to obstruct judicial proceedings linked to previous drug distribution activities and stressed the urgent need for intervention by law enforcement authorities.

The CID has been requested to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident without delay.
