A group of voters from the Nuwara Eliya Municipal area staged a protest, urging former Mayor Mahinda Dodampagamage to return to politics and contest the upcoming local government election for the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.
The demonstrators, including religious leaders and local residents, gathered in front of Mr. Dodampagamage’s tourist hotel in Nuwara Eliya, emphasizing that he is the only leader capable of advancing the region’s tourism industry. They highlighted his significant contributions to the city’s development during his tenure as Mayor.
Addressing the protesters, Mr. Dodampagamage stated that he has no current plans to re-enter politics. However, he acknowledged the request from voters and assured them that he would carefully consider their appeal before making an official announcement in the future.
