Mr. Nagananda Kodithuvakku, an attorney at law, drew attention to a case of smuggling mobile phones into the nation and defrauding it of billions of money to the country.
He claimed that those responsible for the scam travel to Dubai three to four times per week, fill briefcases with used cell phones, and bring them back to Sri Lanka where they are reassembled and sold as brand-new cell phones.
A total of 5000 rupees will be given to customs from a single phone, according to Mr. Nagananda, who claimed that this is being done with the knowledge of the customs.
