Sri Lanka signed a seven-year agreement with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) for a total contribution of nearly US$ 2.1 million to improve the lives and means of subsistence of marginalised people in the country.

K M M Siriwardana, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, and David McKinnon, High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Colombo on August 15, 2022.

World University Service of Canada is a non-profit organisation based in Canada that works to provide underprivileged youth and women around the world with opportunities for education, employment, and empowerment.

On October 28, 1992, Canada and Sri Lanka signed a General Agreement on Development Cooperation.

The goal of implementing this programme in Sri Lanka is to strengthen the capacity of the country’s partner organisations. The project’s potential partners in Sri Lanka include the government, non-governmental, private, and social enterprise sectors.

For the period 2020-2027, Canada’s total contribution to the implementation of this programme in Sri Lanka is approximately CAD 2,762,852.00.
