US Ambassador Julie Chung and European Union in SL Condemn Sri Lanka’s Prolonged Use of PTA, Call for Alignment with International Standards and Release of Peaceful Protesters  I Sri Lanka Latest News

Ms Julie Chung, the US ambassador in Sri Lanka, and the European Union office in SL, in separate ‘X’ assertions, expressed deep concern about the continued use of PTA, including the arrest of peaceful protesters, and the treatment of detainees in prisons. Demand that authorities align their legislation with international standards and conventions and discontinue the use of PTA.

Concerned about continued use of #PTA to make arrests. Authorities should bring the legislation in line with international standards and #humanrights conventions, and meanwhile stop using the PTA, as per their commitments.
