After appearing before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, a 19-year-old ‘Choon Paan’ vendor was ordered to be remanded until September 8 for allegedly uploading and sharing a threatening Facebook post on President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The suspect, an Eppawala resident, was apprehended by the CID on suspicion ahead of the President’s scheduled visit to Thambuttegama and Eppawala on September 7.

The CID told the court that they were looking into whether there was any connection between this incident and an army soldier fleeing with a T-56 weapon from the Kilinochchi Army Camp.

The suspect allegedly made a Facebook post about the possibility of locating a sniper ahead of the President’s scheduled visit to the Eppawala area on February 1.
