Presidential Secretariat Official Arrested Over Fake Passport for Organized Criminal

A suspect has been arrested for allegedly forging a fake passport in another person’s name to facilitate the escape of an organized criminal from the country.

The arrest was made in connection with an investigation being conducted by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.

The suspect has been identified as a 41-year-old Senior Assistant Secretary attached to the Parliament and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat and is a resident of Kandy.

Investigations conducted so far have revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the offence while previously serving as the Deputy Controller of the Foreign Missions Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The arrest was carried out following investigations conducted under the supervision of Senior DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku of the Crime, Traffic, Child and Women Abuse Prevention Investigation Division, DIG Chandana Kodithuwakku, Divisional Officer of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, and Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
