Samurdhilabhi recipients in many parts of the island protested against the ‘Aswasuma’ welfare benefit programme proposed by the government today. Sri Lanka Latest News
Protesters say it is unfair that ineligible residents of their localities should be eligible for ‘aswasuma’ benefits instead of poor people.
As one step in the social safety net implemented by the president to rescue the people from the ongoing economic crisis, the government started the ‘Awaswesuma’ welfare benefit program.
Under this, financial assistance is to be provided in 4 categories namely transitional, vulnerable, poor and extremely poor and it is planned to provide related allowances for the disabled, elderly and kidney patients as usual.
After inviting the applications, the eligible persons are identified for the payment of these welfare benefits and the list of eligible persons can be known through the website www.wbb.gov.lk.
