UNDP Sri Lanka Launches next iteration of Giving Facility for Flood Relief and Livelihoods Support Following Cyclone Ditwah
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka today launched the next iteration of the Giving Facility for Flood Relief & Livelihoods Support to mobilize fast, transparent assistance for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

The cyclone has caused widespread devastation and affected the lives of more than a million people. Extensive damage to homes, roads, agricultural lands, health facilities, and markets has escalated the need for urgent relief and early recovery support.

The Facility offers partners with a trusted platform to amplify their investments in recovery, by contributing to existing projects and ongoing efforts towards immediate livelihoods relief, early recovery, and long-term resilience-building. Support packages include cash-for-work for community clean-up, micro-grants for affected entrepreneurs, restoration of markets and agricultural assets, and climate-resilient reconstruction efforts. All interventions are aligned with the Government of Sri Lanka’s coordination mechanisms and supported by UNDP’s robust financial safeguards and reporting systems.

Azusa Kubota, Resident Representative, UNDP in Sri Lanka highlighted, “This Facility is designed to move resources quickly and responsibly to the communities that need them most. Through strong safeguards and alignment with national priorities, we aim to ensure every contribution directly supports relief, early recovery, and the rebuilding of resilient livelihoods.”

The new Facility builds on the success of the 2022–2023 phase launched during the socio-economic crisis, which mobilized over USD 6 million and supported more than 275,000 people through medical and livelihoods assistance, through funding contributions from development partners, the private sector and foundations.

Partners interested in contributing financial or in-kind support, volunteering, or co-financing opportunities may contact Myanthi Peiris, Partnerships Analyst, UNDP Sri Lanka ([email protected])
