The Supreme Court has ruled that former Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon, and former Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colombo North Special Investigation Unit, Nalin Sriyantha, violated the fundamental rights of social activist Anuruddha Bandara by arresting and detaining him during the 2022 public uprising.

The ruling was delivered following the hearing of a fundamental rights petition filed by Anuruddha Bandara, challenging his arrest and detention.
