According to a latest report issued by the National Audit Office, more than five crore fifty five lakh rupees have been spent on the rented quarters of two foreign missions despite the fact that they are government owned buildings. Sri Lanka Latest News
The report also states that although there are buildings owned by the Sri Lankan government in Australia, Sweden and Kenya, they have been given quarters for rent in the year 2022 due to non-maintenance.
Meanwhile, the National Audit Office said that two vehicle accidents that occurred in the year 2014 and 2015 in the foreign mission in Pitoria (the loss was more than six lakh rupees) and the theft of money in three foreign missions were not dealt with properly.
Also, the same office mentions that no action was taken regarding a theft of more than ten lakh rupees that happened at the London Foreign Mission.
Meanwhile, the audit report further states that a group of officials paid more than twenty nine lakhs as their salaries in the year 2022 without being formally attached to the Lakshman Kadiragamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies in violation of the Code of Procedure.
