Mr. Kavin Jayasekara, son of Member of Parliament Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara, who was staying in a car near the village officer’s office on Lairds Road, Bambalapitiya, was threatened with a knife yesterday (03) by a person and robbed him of 163,000 rupees in cash and a white gold necklace. The police say that while the lawyer was in the car, a person approached the car and demanded money. When he said that he had no money, the person took a pointed knife hidden in his waist and extended it and first robbed him of 3000 rupees which was on the dashboard of the car. Then he tried to steal a bag from the car. It is said that a white gold necklace was thrown out and the suspect stole it and ran away.
The police have managed to identify the robber through security cameras. A senior police officer said that investigations are underway to arrest him.
The police suspect that the robber is a fanatic.
