On the evening of October 29, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Sri Lanka hosted a celebration at Galle Face Hotel Colombo, to mark the 101st anniversary of the Republic’s Proclamation. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, the Honorable Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Hanif Yusuf.
Guests, invited by Ambassador Semih Lütfü Turgut and Mrs. Leyla Turgut, were warmly welcomed upon their arrival. In his speech, Ambassador Turgut emphasized the longstanding and unique friendship between Türkiye and Sri Lanka, highlighting the deep historical ties, mutual respect, and cooperation that have strengthened their relationship over the years. He spoke on the significance of various bilateral engagements and partnerships, especially those fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations.
The evening was a lively tribute to Turkish heritage, featuring a cultural program of traditional Turkish music, songs, and culinary, providing attendees with an immersive experience of Türkiye’s rich heritage. Ambassador Turgut expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Sri Lankan dignitaries, officials, and the diplomatic community, acknowledging their invaluable support in nurturing the bonds between Türkiye and Sri Lanka. Mr. Yusuf, Governor of the Western Province, reciprocated the sentiments by reflecting on the enduring ties between the two countries and extended his good wishes to the Turkish Ambassador and his team.
The event’s ambiance was enriched by traditional Turkish music, adding a festive spirit. Among the distinguished guests were the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.), members of Colombo’s diplomatic corps, and commanders from the Sri Lankan Army and Navy. This gathering underscored the deep friendship and cooperation Türkiye and Sri Lanka enjoy across various sectors.
