Five foreign exchange counters at the departure terminal of Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake are expected to generate over 2.3 billion rupees, in addition to applicable taxes.

The Bank of Ceylon, Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank, and Thomas Cook Lanka secured contracts following a bidding process that invited proposals from licensed commercial banks, licensed specialized banks, and foreign exchange businesses approved by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. These entities will now operate five currency exchange counters at the BIA departure terminal.

The allocation details for the counters, as outlined in a cabinet statement, are as follows:

– Counter No. 25: Bank of Ceylon – Rs. 798.028 million + taxes
– Counter No. 02: Sampath Bank – Rs. 633.662 million + taxes
– Counter No. 04: Commercial Bank – Rs. 381.364 million + taxes
– Counter No. 10: Thomas Cook Lanka (Pvt) Ltd – Rs. 299.064 million + taxes
– Counter No. 11: Hatton National Bank – Rs. 225.689 million + taxes

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for these five institutions to operate currency exchange services at BIA for a period of three years, following recommendations from the Technical Evaluation Committee and the Standing Procurement Committee, according to Minister Vijitha Herath.
