The Colombo Chief Magistrates Court Bar Association and the Colombo Bar Association have passed resolutions demanding that the top officers of the Sri Lanka Bar Association resign within 10 days due to accusations of non-transparent use of the JICA fund intended for anti-corruption efforts.
Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) invited bids for an anti-corruption project in the latter half of 2023. After the Sri Lanka Bar Association submitted a bid, it received a fund of 24 million rupees. However, allegations have surfaced against President Advocate Kaushalya Navaratne, Vice President Nalinda Indatissa, President’s Counsal Shavindra Fernando, Advocate Nuwan D’Alvis, and Advocate Rashmini Indatissa regarding the lack of transparency in the bidding process and in entering into agreements.
