The Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith celebrated his 75th birthday today (15).
The Auxiliary Bishops of Colombo and Puja Prasadeen also participated in the birthday celebration held in the morning at the official residence of the Archbishop of Colombo.
It is a tradition for the archbishop to step down from his post upon reaching the age of 75, and His Holiness Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has arranged to forward the relevant letter to the Pope.
However, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith will continue as archbishop pending the Pope’s response.
