The government has now launched an operation to postpone the local government elections after nominating the three civil representatives of the Legislative Council and presenting it to the Parliament through a resolution on the 5th.

It is reported that a very crucial discussion in this regard is scheduled to be held at 7.30 tonight.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa are going to participate in this discussion to be held through Zoom technology.

It is reported that the plan of the government is to take a final decision regarding the three civilians who are to be appointed to the Legislative Council and adopt the names through a resolution in the Parliament.

It is said that the government has planned to hastily convene the parliament which was supposed to be convened on the 17th of January on the 5th with the aim of presenting these 3 names to the parliament and adopting them.

Opposition political sources state that the aim of the government is to find a way to postpone the local government elections through the appointment of the Legislative Council as soon as possible.

However, it is also known that there will be no discussion regarding the Minority party representative in the Legislative Assembly in this discussion.
