President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that this is the country’s last chance to recover from its economic downturn and that everyone must work together to achieve that goal.
On Saturday, he made these remarks while visiting the Dharma Vijayaloka Temple in Rukmale, Kottawa (06).
Following religious ceremonies, the President paid a visit to the Chief of Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha, Ven. Itthepane Dhammalankara Nahimi, and received his blessings.
Speaking to the Thero, the President stated that he was able to become President due to Ven. Dhammalankara Thero’s advice to keep his country in mind and to take up the position of Prime Minister previously vacated.
He stated that he is attempting to establish an all-party governance system because he believes that doing so will allow him to rebuild the country’s economy.
“Neither the government nor the opposition will lose if we divide ourselves, but the constitution and democracy will,” the President said, emphasising that this is the last chance to rebuild the economy.
The President also stated that it is critical to first lift the people of the country out of their current situation and to create a better society overall.
President Wickremesinghe reiterated that he had completed all of his duties to bring the country together and expressed sympathy for “some of those who have gone down the wrong path,” adding that he hoped to continue his journey alongside them as well.
“My belief is that if we stay on this path, we can build a better and stronger Sri Lanka in a decade and a half,” the President said.
The Mahanayake of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Ven. Iththapane Dhammalankara Thero, and the Anunayake of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Ven.
