National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) Deputy General Mr.N.K.Ranatunga said today the water bill will be raised.
He said that the water supply board had to incur additional expenses due to the increase in electricity charges in recent days.
“With the increase in the electricity bill, after 10 years, the water tariff also had to be increased in September last year. “Even if the electricity bill is increased again in January 2023, the increase has not yet been added to the water bill,” he said.
“However, the water board has to incur additional costs in managing the new electricity charges. But we cannot do this for long,” he said.
He said that due to the increase in electricity bill, the water supply board will incur an additional loss of Rs.4 billion.
He said that the demand for water has also increased by about 10 percent due to the hot weather.
