The consideration is being done before the five-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Bhuvaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando.

These petitions were presented by Samagi Jana Balavega General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara and National Jana Balavega MP Vijitha Herath.

The petitioners claim that the Supreme Court issued an order to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance on the 3rd of last March preventing the withholding of the funds allocated for the holding of the local government polls through the 2023 budget estimates.

These petitions have been submitted alleging that the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance has insulted the court by failing to implement the said order.
