Many devotional activities such as the completion of the restoration work of the historic Mahiyangana Chaitya, the opening of Sri Lanka’s largest Buddha statue located in the middle of the Willawapitiya lake at the Mahiyangana Pooja site, and the presentation of the Sannas Patra, which registered Mahiyangane as a Pooja site, were held at the premises today.
The ceremony was supposed to start at 2 pm, but the President was not there by 5.31 pm.
Accordingly, after starting the ceremony late, the Anunayaka Anamaduve Prelate Dhammadassi of the Asgiri sect of the Mahaviharavanshika Shyamopali Maha Nikaya expressed his displeasure.
