The opposition, comprising the SJB, G L Pieris, and others, file two Supreme Court petitions for LG elections.

Two petitions have been submitted to the Supreme Court by a group of opposition parliamentarians requesting that an order mandating the holding of local government elections issued on Election Commission.

One petition was presented by Samagi Jana Balawega General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara and by. Professor G.L.Peiris.

MPs.Dayasiri Jayasekara, Laxman Kiriella, Anura Priyadarshana Yap, and M. Sumandhiran submitted the other petition.

Respondents include the members of the Election Commission and the Prime Minister.

Mr. G. L. Peiris stated this at a press conference held today.
