The official term of 340 local government bodies ends today: but what about the election?

The official period of 340 local government bodies ends today (19) at midnight.
The term of office of 29 Municipal councils, 36 Urban councils and 275 local councils will end at midnight today.

Although there are 341 local government bodies in the island, the establishment of the Elpitiya local council in Galle district was delayed, so the term of office of that local council will not end.

The State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government says that after midnight today (19), the administrative affairs of the local government bodies will be placed under the commissioners and local council secretaries.

State Minister Mr. Janaka Wakkambura mentioned that the activities are carried out according to the local government law.

He also stated that the heads of the local government bodies have been notified to hand over the official vehicles currently in use.
