The Maldivian speaker representing Sri Lanka and participating in the relevant conference has created a very controversial situation in the Maldives. He is participating in that conference not representing Maldives; but representing Sri Lanka.

Dr. Mohammad Munarwar, a former attorney general, has questioned that it is a problem for Mohammad Nasheed, who is paid by the tax money of the Maldivian public, to stand for another country (Sri Lanka) for the position of speaker.

It is said that Mr. Abdul Gayoom, a former president of Maldives, has also retweeted the tweet issued by the former Attorney General.

Diana Saeed, another former attorney general, also states that he does not have the authority to represent another country while serving as the Speaker of the Maldives.

Another party is urging the government that it should be disclosed whether the Maldivian government will bear the expenses for the visit of the Speaker of the Maldives.

Maldives Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has been appointed as a Climate Change Adviser to Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

It is said that there is a group of people who are loyal to Mohammad Nasheed by raising that point.
Maldivian Speaker Mr. Mohamed Nasheed is participating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference being held in Egypt these days.
