Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena mentioned that in that letter, the attention of the party leaders was brought to the attention of the party leaders regarding the further actions that the Parliament could take regarding the request made by the Election Commission.
Party leaders have agreed to pass the proposal to release the money allocated for elections in this year’s budget for the local government elections in the parliament.
The Speaker had recently forwarded a copy of the relevant letter to the Minister of Finance, President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The Chairman of the Election Commission, Mr. Nimal Punchihewa, an attorney at law, directed the relevant letter to the speaker and requested him to intervene in obtaining the necessary financial allocations to hold the local government polls.
