The Sri Lanka Judicial Services Association (JSA) has objected to the proposal to appoint Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Tikiri Jayathilake and another officer of the Attorney General’s Department to the High Court.
The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka has expressed its displeasure by issuing an announcement regarding the relevant proposal presented by President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The association points out that Tikiri Jayathilakata is disqualified to resume work as a member of the judiciary at any time in the future due to his assumption of duty as the Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament.
The Judicial Service Union has warned that the President’s current decision is harmful to the independence of the judiciary, particularly the independence of judges in trial courts.
In relation to the appointment of the other officer in the Attorney General’s Department, the Judicial Service Association points out that the said officer is a junior officer and that the appointment has caused injustice to the judicial officers who are next in seniority.
The Judicial Service Union has further requested the President to refrain from appointing Tikiri Jayatilaka to the High Court and to consider seniority when appointing an officer of the Attorney General’s Department to the High Court.
