The Attorney General has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate former State Minister Diana Gamage regarding criminal matters that have been raised and to take action against her under the Criminal Procedure Code.

The AG issued his instructions to the CID after the department’s director sought advice on further action regarding criminal matters revealed during court cases and investigations conducted against Ms. Gamage over allegations she had served as an MP while concealing her British citizenship.

The CID has informed the AG that several criminal matters have been revealed regarding Ms. Gamage. These include presenting forged documents, violating the Constitution, acting in violation of election laws, and presenting forged documents as originals. The AG has instructed the CID to conduct a probe and based on evidence, produce Ms. Gamage in court with charges being brought against her under the Criminal Procedure Code.
