Various parties had alleged that the police had used expired tear gas to disperse the public protests against the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa regime.
A complaint in this regard was filed before the Freedom of Information Commission by journalist Taridu Uduwaragedara.
Accordingly, the Commission had ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide true information about the tear gas used to disperse the protests.
The IGP initially agreed to provide the relevant information, but later he refused.
An officer of the Police Legal Division, who appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, told the commission that the Inspector General of Police refuses to provide more information due to national security and territorial integrity.
Accordingly, the inquiry has been completed by the Information Commission and the announcement of the decision has been postponed until the 27th.
