The media has reported that the government has decided to provide an official residence at Bauddaleka Mawatha in Colombo to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is ready to come back to Sri Lanka next week.

This official residence is a spacious house located next to Bauddaloka Mawatha and Malalasekara Mawatha. Former Minister Namal Rajapaksa is also staying in another government official house located next to this house.

Also, the government has given 2 official residences to Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa who is a former president as well as a former prime minister. One of them is located at Wijerama Mawatha and the other is at Bullers Road. Accordingly, the government has taken steps to provide 4 houses from the government’s official housing reserve to the Rajapaksa family.

However, last week the former Chief Justice Mr. Sarath N. Silva said that since the former president left office, he is not entitled to any privilege that a former president is entitled to.
