The petition was presented by journalist Mr. Tharindu Uduwaragedara.
The Attorney General has been named as the respondent.
The petitioner claims that some of the provisions contained in the relevant bill violate other fundamental human rights including freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the Constitution.
Accordingly, the petitioner has requested the Supreme Court to give a decision that if the relevant bill is to be passed, it must be approved by a two-thirds majority vote in the Parliament and it must also be approved by a referendum.
