Although the Supreme Court has been informed that the local government election cannot be held on March 9th, the Election Commission says that it is not possible to reissue the election deposit money.
The election deposit money can be re-issued only in case of cancellation of the nomination, its chairman Nimal G. Punchihewa mentioned.
In order to cancel the nominations, the government must submit a bill to the Parliament; otherwise the nominations will be cancelled only if the delimitation is published in the gazette.
However, the chairman further said that no specific statement has been made so far that the local government election will not be held, and the Supreme Court has only been informed of the difficulty of holding it on the currently announced date.
