The Election Commission says that it does not agree with the decision to appoint a special representative of the Chairman of the Regional Development Committee for the supervision of local government institutions.
The Election Commission stated that since the Chairman of the Development Committee is a representative of a political party, it is his opinion that the affairs of the local government bodies will be politicized through the appointment of his representative.
The Commission also stated that due to this, the candidates from other political parties are being treated unfairly.
There have been complaints about it continuously from various parties.
Accordingly, the Election Commission stated that it will inform the Ministry of Local Government in writing that it does not agree with the decision to appoint a representative of the Chairman of the Regional Development Committee for the supervision of local government institutions.
The commission said that the coordination of local government bodies and the necessary information can be done from the municipal commissioner or the divisional secretary of the concerned local government body.
Therefore, the Election Commission stated that it is not necessary to appoint another representative for this purpose.
