The Tambuttegama police found Dr. Amila Sandakelum Dissanayake of Tambuttegama Hospital, who died mysteriously on a bed in her official residence, suspected to have injected insulin to kill herself. The needles were burned behind the official residence.
A senior police officer said that the syringes were found half-burnt and will be forwarded to the government inspector by a court order.
A senior police officer said that this doctor, who was working at the Tambuttegama hospital, was living separately from his wife, and there had been no exchange of views between the two since January 13.
Police say that after informing the wife of the doctor’s death, she and the doctor’s brother came and identified the dead body and got involved in the autopsy.
The dead body was taken to Anuradhapura Hospital by the forensic doctor Mrs.E.G.U.N.U. Gunaratne has sent for a post-mortem examination.
After conducting the postmortem yesterday (14), she has given an open verdict. The body parts have been sent to the government taster.
The body of this doctor was handed over yesterday (14) by Tambuttegama Magistrate to his wife Mrs. Malkanti Menike Dissanayake who is a dentist at Kurunegala Hospital.
The court has ordered that the body should be buried at Narammala Wennoruwa Public Cemetery and that the place should be marked.
The body of this doctor, who had committed suicide, was found during an investigation by the hospital staff due to the fact that he had not reported to work for 3 days.
