The police request from the court to issue an injunction against a demonstration organized by the National People’s Organization tomorrow (21) near Sellanduwa intersection in Negombo.

Negombo Acting Magistrate Mr. Indika De Silva has given this order after considering the relevant request by police.

The police have said that they have received intelligence information that they will try to create a public disturbance to achieve political goals in parallel with the movement organized by the cardinal to demand justice for the victims of the Easter attack.

The police have further requested that the meeting organized by the National People’s Force should be held in a playground or a suitable place where the public can gather legally and an order  be issued to preserve the peace.

The court having considered the facts in that regard has stated that the facts presented to issue such an order are not sufficient.

However, the court has further indicated in its order that if there is any damage to public property, public or private property, the police can take necessary measures immediately.
